Energy Mission Statement

The Energy Mission Statement of the town of Bad Schussenried

Situated in the heart of Upper Swabia, Bad Schussenried is a state-accredited spa town. The monastery town is located directly on the Schwabian Spa Trail and the Upper Swabian Baroque Trail between the River Danube, the River Iller and Lake Constance. The unique moor landscape, with its lakes and forests and spectacular views of the Alps, offers a wide range of leisure activities. To preserve this uniqueness, Bad Schussenried has created a sustainable energy mission statement. This mission statement is subject to ongoing review and augmented as appropriate.

The pillars of the energy policy

As at 13.03.2008

  1. Bad Schussenried shall, in terms of its energy policy, act in an exemplary fashion and, through active communication, animate its population and local companies to follow its example.
  2. Bad Schussenried aims to sustainably reduce its CO2 emissions, and therefore has set itself the goal of reducing CO2 emissions by at least 50% by the year 2020. Guidelines have been drafted to help the parties involved achieve and exceed this ambitious goal.
  3. Energy consumption is a key criterion for the purchase of new and replacement systems and equipment. As a rule, preference shall be given to CO2 neutral systems and equipment.
  4. Generation of renewable energy on municipal and private buildings shall be increased by renting or owner-occupancy of available areas.#
  5. The town undertakes to implement the Renewable Heat Act of the state of Baden Württemberg and, after entry into force of the Federal Renewable Heat Act applicable to residential buildings, to also implement these guidelines in connection with new municipal buildings, as well the renovation of heating systems in existing municipal buildings.
  6. To ensure the sustainable protection of our habitat, ground sealing shall be reduced to the necessary minimum.
  7. To improve quality of living and work, and to ensure a clean environment, ecological construction shall be a focal point for future development sites. Owners of low energy homes shall be eligible for financial subsidies.
  8. Private transport will play an increasingly important role in the rural infrastructure. Vehiclar traffic shall firstly be reduced and, secondly, made to flow more smoothly through a modern traffic management system (e.g. town bypass, inner urban traffic abatement measures). Local public transport, as well as ample provision for cycle paths and footpaths, make a valuable alternative to private vehicular traffic and shall be promoted.
